Obert Mpofu throws Matemadanda under the bus as Zanu PF war vets squabble:
Zanu PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu has thrown the ruling party National Political Commissar, Victor Matemadanda under the bus by supporting Douglas Mahiya’s launch of the War Veterans’ League without notifying the commissariat.
Recently, Matemadanda slammed Zanu PF secretary for war veterans, Mahiya for rushing to organise the meeting without consulting the party’s structures.
In a video seen by Nehanda Radio on Zanu PF’s Facebook page, Mpofu contradicted Matemadanda by welcoming, as a positive development, the launching of the war veterans’ league by Mahiya.
“I also want to acknowledge war veterans wing Cde Mahiya in conjunction with Mashonaland Central Politburo members, central committee members and honourable ministers from that province for the restructuring of the War Veterans Committee at the historic Atlanta Farm in Muzarabani of which (Richard) Chirongwe was appointed,” Mpofu said.
War veterans played a crucial role in the rise of President Emmerson Mnangagwa as they publicly supported the military intervention that removed the late former president Robert Mugabe from power in November 2017.
The clash between the two Zanu PF top leaders is a manifestation of serious squabbles in the ruling party.
The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) provincial chairpersons had earlier slammed Mahiya for launching the league without consulting the party’s constitution.
“We are extremely surprised to note that Mahiya decides to rush to launch the league even before the party constitution has been amended to accommodate that. From the start, decisions or the establishment of the league were done without consulting veterans of the liberation struggle.
“The league formation was just rushed through the Politburo, central committee and (2019 Zanu PF) conference (in Goromonzi) without consulting stakeholders,” read the statement by ZNLWVA.
These squabbles in the ruling Zanu PF also come at a point when Mnangagwa’s under-fire government recently, issued a chilling threat against exiled former minister Saviour Kasukuwere and outspoken MDC Alliance Vice Chairman and MP Job Sikhala for allegedly peddling what they called “false” claims of an imminent coup in the country.

Nelson Chamisa thanks Malema for solidarity:
MDC leader Nelson Chamisa has sent a message of gratitude to Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema for standing with the people of Zimbabwe in the fight against corruption involving the COVID-19 tender process.
Said Chamisa, "The solidarity is much appreciated CIC. Zimbabwe is facing a man-made governance crisis characterized by egregious corruption, looting and institutionalized violence. We are comforted by this fluent language of brotherhood and sisterhood. One Africa…One fight against corruption."
Malema had posted on Twitter that, "We applaud the fight against corruption and looting of public funds going on in Zimbabwe. It is cruel and evil for anyone regardless of who they are to steal money meant to help citizens fight Covid-19. There is nothing revolutionary or patriotic about thieving. Pasi neMbavha!"

Mashakada dumps Chamisa:
MDC Alliance faces dramatic revolt as more MPs appear to be deserting the camp led by Nelson Chamisa.
The former Cabinet Minister and Hatfield legislator Tapiwa Mashakada becoming the latest to categorically state that he has chosen "to disassociate myself from this dictatorship and join forces with my comrades who are committed to protecting, defending, promoting and advancing the Morgan Tsvangirai legacy."
Mashakada confirmed he had left MDC Alliance due to worsening divisions after he criticised the decision to disengage from Parliament as stupid and unstrategic.
He adds that two-thirds of MPs and members of the Tsvangirai family are all unhappy with the Chamisa leadership.
The term "constitutionalists" is being used in opposition circles to describe those who accept the Supreme Court ruling of 31st March which declared Chamisa illegitimate and called for an extraordinary congress.
Last week, Mashakada led a revolt and went into Parliament despite the Alliance having resolved to disengage from the august house.
Apart from Mashakada, Paurina Gwanyanya-Mpariwa has also ditched the MDC Alliance camp in favour of the camp that respects the Supreme Court ruling.
We publish below the full statement by Mashakada.
—————
(MDC Alliance Secretary-General Chalton) Hwende is peddling lies and falsehoods that I and Hon Paurina Mpariwa have were "fired" by the National Standing Committee.
The world must know that the MDC project is collapsing because of one Charlton Hwende who has a blank cheque in the Standing Committee to attack, rubbish and tell everyone that "chinhu chedu" "you are just a passenger in other people's bus".
And the current Standing Committee is full of many tormented souls. Hamuna mufaro. People are maltreated as objects. Many of them are suffering in silence. The day it will explode it will be worse than what you are witnessing today.
There is a cabal which terms itself chinhu chedu tisu takachibvuta. What you see on the surface is not what is inside. There is bonfire inside.
I am not aware of the so-called firing of me and Hon Paurina Mpariwa. In any case how can one be fired from a voluntary organization?
The facts are as follows: All I know is that, after I criticized the decision to disengage from Parliament as stupid and unstrategic, the next day 25 MPs defied the directive and attended Parliament.
In an act of vindictiveness, Charlton Hwende removed me from National Standing Committee and National Executive internal What's Up Groups. Our reaction as the Labour caucus in the MDC Alliance and founding members, was to retrace our history, back to the labour movement, and chose to revive the Morgan Tsvangirai legacy.
The Labour caucus, two thirds of MPs and most importantly the Morgan Richard Tsvangirai family are together in the fight for democratic change, human rights, democracy, good governance, rule of law, reforms and sustainable economic growth and development.
It is clear that Hwende and his cabal do not have a clue on what democracy and freedom of speech means. They cannot withstand a robust internal democratic discourse.
Moreso, they can't manage internal contradictions. The MDC Alliance has mishandled and mismanaged the Supreme Court Judgement and has painted itself as a political outfit which does not respect the institutions of the country, in particular, the judiciary and the Security Forces.
They have shown a condescending view. Iam a founder member of the MDC and I cannot accept to be muzzled. The MDC Alliance must walk the talk, respect and tolerate diversity and divergence of views.
In brief, I have elected to disassociate myself from this dictatorship and join forces with my comrades who are committed to protecting, defending, promoting and advancing the Morgan Tsvangirai legacy.
I am reliably informed that at yesterday (Tuesday 9th June) National Standing Committee meeting, Hwende had organized a group of thugs with instructions to assault me should I come anyway near the meeting. This readable pattern of violent behaviour is unacceptable in a democratic movement.
In Solidarity,
Dr Tapiwa Maji- Marefu Mashakada

‘Chamisa running MDC like a toothpaste company’ – Jonathan Moyo:
FORMER Cabinet Minister and MDC Alliance sympathizer Professor Jonathan Moyo has said reports that Nelson Chamisa has gagged party officials from speaking their own views on social media platforms reduces the party into a “toothpaste company” and exposes Chamisa as a “Stanilist and control freak”.
Lately, several top opposition officials including Job Sikhala and Dr. Tapiwa Mashakada had turned to social media and online publications to air their views on party issues, but the Daily News reports that Chamisa has gagged all officials.
The report says Chamisa insists that only spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere speaks to media.
Responding to the developments, Professor Moyo said on Twitter: “Pray this is not true. Only Stalinists and control freaks restrict messaging to a select group of party apparatchiks.”
The self-exiled Moyo said that in political movements, as many people must be able to speak and articulate the party position, but was quick to add that this was achievable where leadership instills discipline in the party.
“In political communication, it’s not about WHO should speak but WHAT should be said by EVERYONE: message discipline. What’s needed are MANY voices with One message!” said Moyo, who revealed that he funded the MDC Alliance election campaign in 2018.
When Moyo was told by one of his followers that it was important for the sake of professionalism to have only the spokesperson speak on politics, the political science guru dismissed the idea of gagging people on their own private social media platforms.
“That maybe true for toothpaste companies, not for political parties!” Moyo retorted.
The Chamisa camp has been hit by reports that apart from Sikhala and Mashakada, six legislators will next week make a switch to the rival opposition camp led by Thokozani Khupe.
